kdevelop - deleting a file from a project

I am having a problem with deleting a file from a project. If I run a simple "hello world" program and add the file "hi.cpp", compile the project and run it everything is fine. Then I decide I don't need "hi.cpp" and delete it. Then when I try to compile the project i get the following error:

cd "/home/porterm/projects/Inamuro_Model/hello/debug" && WANT_AUTOCONF_2_5="1" WANT_AUTOMAKE_1_6="1" gmake -k
*gmake all-recursive
*gmake[2]: *** No rule to make target `/home/porterm/projects/Inamuro_Model/hello/src/hi.cpp', needed by `hi.o'.
*gmake[2]: Target `all' not remade because of errors.
*gmake[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
*Making all in src
*gmake: *** [all] Error 2
**** Exited with status: 2 ***

How do I delete a file from a project and get the project to compile and run as if I never added the file?

did you rerun automake and friends before you recompiled
it would be in "build > run automake & friends"
than you do build configure
than build project

Thank you for your suggestion. I tried it and I am getting the same error message. Maybe I'm deleting the file in the wrong manner or not deleting enough files. I'm only deleting the "hi.cpp" file. There msut be something simple I'm overlooking. If you have any other suggestions I'm all ears. Again thank you for the reply.

what version of kdevelop do you have, of its 3.0.1 i would recommend you upgrade, i had a lot of problems with 3.0.1 that came with mandrake 10. i use 3.0.4 witch has a lot of bug-fixes one is with the automake file

another thing you can do is add another hi.cpp file and than delete it again, you have to delete it though the automake manager, in the left hand tabs.

I am using version 3.0.2 that came with SuSe 9.1.

Deleting it from the automake manager did the trick. Thank you very, very much.
