KDE4 Problem: No MB1/MB2 chording support?
 

Boy oh boy... who took this support out of KDE? Or if it's still available, where the heck did they hide it? Ever since I updated my main desktop system to OpenSUSE 12.2 (with KDE 4.8.4) I have, essentially, no control over the mouse configuration

I've been using the MB1/MB2 chording to emulate having a MB3 on my two-button mouse -- a Kensington Expert Mouse trackball connected via a PS2 port -- for years. Is that not going to be supported any more? I've gone into YaST and the only mouse option I seem to be able to tinker with is the type of mouse to be used with the gpm driver for console mode.

I used to be able to jump to a portion of a long web page or document in an editor by clicking MB3 in the scroll bar. And I do a lot of cutting and pasting that MB3 used to make quite easy. Now I wind up having to use multiple mouse clicks to copy/paste text from one window to another. (Who's brilliant idea was that? And I thought the new Gnome was a pain in the butt...)

Is there a simple way to restore mouse button chording?

Quick update:

hwinfo is detecting the correct mouse on the desktop system. Chording is indeed working on my Dell laptop so the problem seems to be limited to the desktop system. On the Dell, I can use all the pseudo-MB3 functions that I've been using for years. Only the desktop system is afflicted with.

I have most everything I care about (docs, data, images, etc.) segregated onto separate disks so reinstalling is not placing my files at risk. I'm about to do a reinstall of the OS with all those other disks disconnected. We'll see if things wind up working differently after a reinstall.

Still hoping someone out there has encountered this and has any interesting tips about fixing the lack of chording problem.
