kde4 on karmic: plasma-desktop doesn't start by itself after removing plasma-netbook
I'm on kubuntu karmic.
I installed kubuntu-netbook (the package) on a normal desktop to see how it works/looks. I didn't fiddle with it very much and tried to remove it. When I removed kubuntu-netbook, plasma-netbook stayed installed and the look stayed the same. After some fighting with it I removed plasma-netbook. But now when I start kde, what I get is the air background with no other thing displayed on top. No widgets, no panel, no nothing. Only some pop-ups (notifications and so on). What would look like one show stopper. I noticed that I can press alt-f2 and use that window to run plasma-desktop and get to an almost normal desktop (some icons are missing from the tray, for example). So, the point: How can I make kde start plasma-desktop automagically? Thanks in advance! |

Could you please provide me the Kubuntu karmic version? |
What do you mean? The version of the packages? If so, which packages?

some linux use the command: cat /etc/lsb-release then show us the release (Most related to debian, ubuntu, etc.) I need to know the linux distro and the release, an example for the results of this command is: DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=9.04 DISTRIB_CODENAME=jaunty DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 9.04" Please let me know your comments. Best regards Jhon :jawa: |
It's right at the begining of the post: Kubuntu karmic (in other words, Kubuntu 9.10).

Man, I don't care if I have to remove plasma's configuration file (perhaps one rc file somewhere) as long as I keep everything else so that I can rebuild it. Is it possible that if I revome said (or is it _unsaid_? :-)) file, I could get to have a desktop when I start kde?

You can remove plasma conf, take a look in ~/.kde/share/config/plasma*

Guys, after I removed kubuntu-netbook-default-settings (the package.... I hadn't noticed there was netbook stuff still on the host) I got the desktop back. :-D
