KDE4 Desktop Icons - Grey box size

I have several icons on my KDE4 Plasma desktop. When the cursor is over one a grey box surrounds it. The size of the box varies for different icons, and limits how close to the edge of the screen I can place the icon. Some boxes are much larger than the icon.

Where is the size of the grey box deternined and how can I change it?

Thanks
Jim

you can set that in the desktop theme

Application / Configure Desktop
in a mix of things

"Desktop Effects"
"Workplace Appearance"
and
"Application Appearance"

I see places where I can change the size of the icons, but not the grey box that appears around them when the cursor hovers over them. That is what I want to change.
