KDE won't start. On log in kdeinit error
Hi.
I am using RedHat 9. I installed a bunch of packages including a number with failed dependencies. Among the packages that installed was qt3-3.0.0-0.beta4.1.i386.rpm. Now when I try to log in using KDE as my desktop I get a message that it can't start kdeinit. When I log in using the Gnome desktop and then try to run kdeinit I get the following message: kdeinit: relocation error: /usr/lib/libkdefx.so.4: undefined symbol: _ZNK7QObject9classNameEv Can anyone help me get my desktop back? Many thanks. Regards, Bill Dika |
Hi again.
I just removed the package mentioned in my previous post and still cannot log in using KDE as my desktop (an error box comes up telling me to check my installation). However, when I type kdeinit into a terminal window in Gnome I now get the following changed message: [root@localhost dad]# kdeinit kdeinit: error while loading shared libraries: libqt-mt.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory [root@localhost dad]# Does this give any further clues? Is there a way to refresh my installation of KDE? Many thanks. Regards, Bill Dika |
I would try to reinstall the package and fix the dependencies in the process, or I don't think your gonna have much luck.

Thanks David for replying to my post.
However, when you say I should reinstall the package do you mean to reinstall KDE? Do you know where the best place to get the KDE rpms for RedHat 9 is? I've looked at a few places and was unable to find kdesupport.arch.rpm which I understand is the first package that should be installed. Sorry for all the Newbie questions. Many thanks. If you are reinstalling kde look at your install cd's, redhat network for redhat supported files, rpmfind.net, or kde.org

Many thanks, David.
