KDE versus Fluxbox Sound Problem

Hello!

When I use XMMS in Fluxbox, everything runs smoothly (mp3, wavs, etc.).

However, in KDE, although have system sounds, XMMS does not work. XMMS runs, but pressing play doesn't do anything. It even gets stuck sometimes.

I am using Alsa. I tried using both an old SB16 card and the oboard intel-8x0 AC'97 sound card. They both give me identical results.

When KDE loads up the console tells me that it cannot find Alsa, but it does play system sounds, so something is working.

I am using the kernel from Slackware 10.0 (2.4.26).

The configuration/kernel/setup worked fine on another computer.

Thanks!

Murdock

Have you tried checking the XMMS settings? I recently switched from KDE to Fluxbox. I never had any problems with XMMS playback in either. In XMMS's preferenced my output device is set to OSS. Give that a try. If that doesn't work try changing KDE's sound driver. You might want to try reinstall/upgrade your alsa package.

Thanks!

First of all, how do you change KDE's driver?

Also, I'll go ahead and reinstall ALSA, maybe that will do something.

Finally however, it is not just XMMS that doesn't work. Any player, such as Noaton, does not work in KDE...strange.
