KDE: System notification sounds: Audio formats: Some files play, some don't. Why?
Sabayon, KDE 4.2.4
Since KDE4 i'm having trouble finding sounds that work with the system notifications. The default files play, but some app-specific sounds and custom sounds from KDE-Look.org or my own won't play. (or i just don't hear them)
The sounds play fine in other applications, VLC or KPlayer, for example.
1. How do i find out what format the files are? (sample rate, channels, etc.)
2. What are the specifications for the system sounds?
3. Am i the only one with this problem or is it distro-specific, for example?

Are you running Pulse Audio sound server? I had a battle with it, and finally disabled it, installed aRts, and the sound problems went away. I now have system sounds and sound with apps like VLC, Audacoius etc. KDE is 4.2.4 also.

Yes, PulseAudio, but i don't have "problems" with it. For example, LMMS works fine, etc. (only some apps that need the Jack server don't work, but that's another story)
It's just that the notification system seems to need files in a specific format.
