KDE Shutdown/Restart Screen Hangs
I have just updated to Red Hat 7.2 with KDE 2.2.2 GUI. Hardware is on a Intel Pentium 200MMX CPU with an S3 Virge/DX 8Mb video card, Gigabyte board, 98MB EDO RAM, Sony G420 Monitor.
I am experiencing exactly the same problem I had with Red Hat v7.0, when I logout of KDE and press the Shutdown button, the next Shutdown/Restart screen freezes and I am forced to reboot.
Any idea's guys ? I am not sure whether I should be concentrating my efforts towards the S3 video card. It is not a brand name card but has the S3 Virge/DX chip as stated earlier.
I have been to the Xfree86 site and the site says that my card is compatable with v3.3.6 and 4.10. I have found that I can ony get it to work with xFree86 3.3.6 and fails with 4.10.
Am I barking up the wrong tree?
Please advise course of action.
May be a silly thing to ask, but have you downloaded the latest and greatest microcode for your card? I've had problems with along that line before, and it was always a driver issue (read: no real legacy support).
