KDE resolution?

hi there....
well I just have one very simple question....
Is it possible to have a resolution better than the one of the screen in KDE?
Not sure that it's clear... Like I've a laptop (recent) with a 1024 resolution. With that resolution in KDE it just looks gross!
So is there a way of having something nicer, thinner....
Because I tried but, of course, if you change the resolution of the screen, the desktop is just too big for the screen!
Well, can I've the 1280 resolution on a 1024 screen and how?
Thanks in advance for your help....

If your monitor supports it, you can have that resolution. If you're having problems (not all resolutions are available, etc), it's possible that your Linux hasn't detected the hardware properly; see for example https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FixVideoResolutionHowto for a couple of fixes.

well in fact the hardware is detected just fine....
It's just that I would like to have a nicer KDE look, cause the resolution is just crap compared to windose so there must be a solution other than changing it.... in kde the icons are huge, just like the windows' borders and so on....
