go to kde control center---->sound and multimedia ---> mixer---> save ur settings after uve set ur volume levels --> also make sure to check the load volumes on login

that should do...

if it doesnt ...

put the following in your /et/rc.loacl file

/usr/bin/aumix -v75 -w75

note the volume level are set to 75 ... choose ur own volume settings...

and restart ur comp...

that should do...

Good luck!!!!!

I don't have mixer under "sound and multimedia" and aumix doesn't have enough options as kde sets my wave and wave capture to 0.

I am using ALSA on emu10k1 driver (SB Live! sound card)

The way to set and save with ALSA is:

Issue as a normal user
mingdao@paul:~$ alsamixer
and set your volumes.
Then su to root and issue
root@paul:/home/mingdao# alsactl store

Hope that works for you. I'm running Slackware 10.0 which has sound
in Fluxbox, but not in KDE. Mandrake 10.0 Official has sound better
than I've heard in any of the 3 other Linux OSs or 2 Windoze OSs I've
run on this box.

If that doesn't help you, search LQ and www.google.com/linux, as the
sound issues in Linux are screwed up, and so it's been asked a whole
lot of times. Screwed up, as meaning, there is no one standard for sound
like there is in Windoze. Ever distro, and desktop environment, and window
manager seem to do it differently. :/

dont know why this works, but i've had a 100% success rate with it..

in console, run alsamixer and set everything the way you want it.
Then, run KMix instead of KAMixer.. For some reason, if you set it using KMix, it remembers. THis is using Suse, but i assume its the same regardless of distro if you're using KDE.

hope it works for you.

I hadn't tried using kmix yet, but when I did use kmix I got these errors, perhaps this is why I am having the problems I am?
Code:
falieson@kaneda ~ $ kmix
kmix: ERROR: snd_ctl_open err=No such file or directory
kmix: ERROR: snd_ctl_open err=No such file or directory
How do I set this?
