KDE problems when nautilus is run.

Ok, this happened to me before, but I didn't know what caused it. But this time I watched it happen. I am running KDE, but my desktop is gnome... all my panels/startmenu is KDE, but my desktop/background/desktop icons are gnome.

This happened imediately upon running nautilux in KDE. When I did that, I watched my desktop flash, and change to the default gnome theme.

Last time this happened, I couldn't get help, and couldn't figure it out, so I just wound up deleting my ~/.kde3.x folder, which worked great and got me back to my kde desktop, accept for the fact that I lost all of my KDE configs... particularly my KDE start menu(which I modified intensely). Since I couldn't figure out where the KDE config files were that I needed, I lost all those changes.

Thanks for the help,

Zak

I had the same problem I think. When I would run Nautilus in Fluxbox Gnome seemed to take over the desktop. The way to fix it is to run nautilus like this.

bash2.05$ nautilus --no-desktop

Have fun

Also just a question. If you're using Kde why on Earth do you want to use Nautilus. Konqueror is a much better file manager/everything else that Nautilus. My $0.02.

open nautilus, there is a setting in the toolbar that reads, 'use nautilus to render desktop(or words to that effect) uncheck that box.

Great! Problem fixed. Through this forum and the gentoo forums I found a solution. I ran "kdesktop" in a konsole, and it restored my desktop. I then used gconf-editor to disable "show desktop", and everything works great now.

If you have this problem, and this thread doesn't help, try checking out this Gentoo thread on problem.

Because nautilus has better file renaming funcionality. I collect anime, so I could have 50 files that I want to all start with "[anbu-aone]Naruto - " and end with "ep[crc-value].avi". Unfortunately due to various distribution methods, episodes do not keep the exact naming scheme throughout a series. So I rename them.

With nautilus, I can act like I'm going to rename one, and highlight the beginning section, and do a copy, then start a rename on another file, and highlight the beginning section and do a paste, to replace the beginning with the version I copied from the previous files name.

Konquerer won't do that. I act like I'm going to rename, highlight the first section, go to the next file and when I paste, it pastes the WHOLE filename of the last file.

That's due to a bug in KDE, should be fixed in the next version.
