KDE problem browsing NTFS

Ok, I'm running Mandrake 9 on my Dell C600 laptop. On the command line, I have no problems at all browsing my WinXP partition. However, if I try to use KDE's quick browser, or browse the partition manually thru the window system, the system just locks up on me. Anyone have an idea what could be causing this or how to fix it? Thanks for any info.

Make sure KDE is not trying to access the cdrom it can cause lockups and/or system hangs on some boxes. I had the same problem everytime I browsed to the /mnt directory to accesss my other hd partitions it would automatically try and read what was in the cdrom even if there was nothing mounted on the cdrom.

If the cdrom isn't mounted, how can I stop kde from trying to access it?

To be honest I have forgotten what I did to disable it. What is happening more than likely it is trying to read the cdrom and mount it for you if there is anything in it. I solved it by searching google. I ended up having to append=scsi or something like that on a particular file and it fixed the problem.

To find out if that even is the problem at all you can try mounting the ntfs partition somewhere other than where your cdrom mounts. In other words dont mount it on /mnt and see what happens then.

Yep, that did it. I just changed the mount point for the ntfs partition and it read it just fine. Now I'll try to figure out how to disable that cd auto read thing. Thanks for your help!
