KDE: Mouse Events Stop working

I wasn't sure where exactly to post this. Any I have kubuntu 7.1 KDE: 3.5.8. The problem is if I don't use my mouse over a certain period of time 'right' and 'left' clicking does't register at all. I must shut down the computer. I can still move my mouse around bt mouse events are no longer valid. Is this a bug in KDE, could something have gotten mis-configured some how? Any light on this problem.

Did you buy a new mouse?
Did that fix the problem?
Did you find a solution/explanation? -- Please share.

BTW, was there a screen saver involved?
BTW2, what kind of mouse is/was it?
