kde konqueror thumbnails view

I used to be able to see thumbnails of digital photos in jpeg format when I would view either the card reader or move them from the card reader to a directory but can't anymore. I have icon view selected. If I open one of the jpg files with gimp, after closing it I now have a thumbnail.

Any ideas as this is a real pain?

Open konqueror and go to View>Preview and make sure "Images" is ticked.
