kde fonts problem with nvidia driver
Hi!
I just installed the nvidia driver for my GeForce2 Go video card in my laptop (inspiron 8100). It works just fine, however I notice that the KDE fonts are bigger than they were with the XFree nv driver. They look about 50% bigger than they were. In mozilla, for example, the fonts look bigger in the menu and the title bar... however, the content looks exactly the way it was before. I remember that when I had Mandrake 9.2 installed in this same laptop, There was an option I used in the XFConfig file that corrected this problem..... but I can't remember what it was. Do you know? Do you have another idea to get it back to normal? I use Mandrake 10 now. This is the XF86Config-4 I use: Code:
# File generated by XFdrake. Code:
(EE) Failed to load module "GLcore" (module does not exist, 0) |
Load "dri"
Load "GLcore" both should be commented out if you are using "nvidia" |
You were right!
I misunderstood the instructions, Thought they actually had to be in the file. I removed them.... however, fonts look the same. :'( Other ideas? Where can I see all the options available for the module section in the XF86Config-4 file? |
Never had a size problem with fonts other than too small...........but can you adjust them in the KDE control panel?

Sure, man.... I corrected the fonts for KDE.... however, menu fonts in all the applications are TOO big. The fonts in the login application are too big too.
I tried with the "nv" driver and it was perfect. I try with "nvidia" and the fonts go giant. The menu fonts in mozilla are too big. So are the fonts in amsn. (just to name two applications) |
I just noticed:
# Multiple FontPath entries are allowed (they are concatenated together) # By default, Mandrake 6.0 and later now use a font server independent of # the X server to render fonts. FontPath "unix/:-1" EndSection Does Mandrake have it's own font configuration tool? Maybe its not playing nice with nvidia? Not sure otherwise. Mine reads: FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/local/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/cyrillic/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/" |
It does use XFS. I'll comment the xfs line and add yours. Let's see how it goes. Hold on a second.

Nope, man... same thing.... and the fonts look edgier now.
Where can I set the font for a given application? is there a default font? Suppose: I go to runlevel 3 Then I start X and then I start mozilla. It will have a font for the menu and so on. Where can I set that font? |
I would have to think there is an easier way. Try these links, I post any more if I find anything.

about a third of the way down the page "3.2.1.2. Adjusting the Default Font Size" Hope that works. |
Got it!
Someone at the nVidia Forums helped me. Here's the link: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=38414 |
