Angry kde file/device protocol dies...

The error I am having happens right after/during the task bar is loading...
I get two windows that pop-up with theses errors:
"The process for the file protocol died unexpectedly"
and
"The process for the device protocol died unexpectedly"

This error had occurred after KDE went into a hang well browsing the home
directory in Konqueror.

Just hoping someone may be able to help me out with fixing this?
Thanks in advance ....

Also no icons are loading on the desktop

This is practically a *full* four years later, and I'm running kde-3.5.9 with the same issue. Is there simply no answer for this, and we have to put up with this erroneous behavior? What's the deal here? I for one would like to have an answer.

/edit: Things have so badly degraded now, that everytime I switch from one desktop to another, I have to rerun "kicker" to get my panel back again. This makes no sense to me. I've never seen this behavior before. I was able to track down the "file protocol" in the Kde ControlCenter under the FileManager tab. But I have no idea how to resolve this. And it seems that no one else does either. I searched earlier on the net, and found only partial fixes that were in no way permanent.

Validate your kde packages. If you don't even get icons on the screen, one or more files may have been corrupted.

This seems to be happening intermittently...

Right now it seems to be working. I just changed to another motherboard with a faster processor. And although I know it shouldn't be related, I'll have to wait and see what kind of results I get. To some extent, many of the problems I was having was due to my system hanging (even the clock stopping for up to an hour or more), waiting for the processor in the old board to get up to speed. So first of all, I'll have to see how many of my old issues have disappeared due to the change.

Trying to use an old 550Mhz Pentium III was just insane.
