KDE (FC17): what file manager can open folders in separate windows?

Hello,

I recently moved from FC14+GNOME to FC17+KDE.
I'm missing the Nautilus ability to open folders in
a new window (this allowed me to open few folders
and use files from all of them quickly) because
so far I couldn't find such feature neither in Dolphin
nor in other file managers of KDE. I could start Nautilus
under KDE but the colors look strange.

Is there any other file manager for KDE with the ability
to open a folder in anew window?

TIA,
kaza.

well KDE4 is a VERY VERY VERY different beast than Gnome2 was

r-click in a folder and select from the menu
or

it is a "Right brain" VS. "Left brain" thing

KDE4 is NO WAY near like Gnome2 , for that install xfce
also " open terminal here " is on a drop down OF a drop down
three deep in the menu

Hi John, thanks for the reply.

For some reason, when I opened the Nautilus from a command line today
its colors look OK - maybe the previous time (which, I think,
was the first since KDE install) it didn't get correctly the colors and other
resources and only after closing it something changed.

Anyway, I changed the default file manager from Dolphin to Nautilus
and now I'm able to open folders in separate windows as before.

After that I checked files associations when using Nautilus. The
associations of *.dng and *.tif were not what I want so I went to
System settings -> File associations, changed *.DNG to have UFRaw
to be the default application and *.tif to have GIMP the default
application, re-opened Nautilus, went to the images folder ... and
nothing changed: files associations within Nautilus were unaffected
by the changes I made.

BTW, I just opened Dolphin, went to the same folder - and indeed, the
associations match what I changed. So, it really looks like Nautilus
takes the associations from some another location.

Can anyone explain me, where Nautilus keeps (or takes from) its files
associations?

TIA,
kaza.

the color is the gnome3 theme
now KDE can be set to so that GTK gui's use the KDE theme ( or as much as they can )

so you ARE going to use gnome3 BUT booting into KDM and using kdm as the default and not the fedora default of GDM

ps
there is a nasty bug in gnome3
if you EVER in a session use "su" or "su -"
ALL YOUR settings WILL change
until you log out and log back in

this has been a known issue with gnome3

as to file associations with gimp
if KDM is being used to launch gnome3( gnome-sheell) then all bets are off

set that in dolphin in kde

or

just use GDM and gnome 3

mixing gnome3 and KDE4 AND expecting Gnome3 settings to "work" ..... is expecting a lot

IF you ARE going to use gnome3 and nautilus
then DO NOT use KDM and KDE to launch gnome3

set the default desktop manager to GDM
and do not use KDM
