kde editors cursor snafu

hello,

I believe I have done some sort of strange key press combination that turned my cursor into a black box that deletes the text ahead as it writes.

This only affects kde editors like kate, kedit and so forth. Because of the modular nature of kde I am not sure where to look to change it back to normal.

To be more descriptive, the curser is a blinking black box that covers the entire character it is over. It deletes just fine but when you type text it overites the characters ahead instead of inserting it as it should. It makes these editors essentially useless.

I tried all the settings, and tried the kde docs but have not had luck even finding a reference to this problem. As mentioned I am pretty sure this occured when I botched a two or three-key combination (another good reason not to use your box drunk ) but have not been able to figure out what it was.

If someone has seen this before I could really use a hint here...

try pressing your insert key on your keyboard.
