KDE desktop is home dir

How do you make desktop home directory, instead of /home/username/Desktop?

Maybe i should rephrase.

[toolshed@tlinux: toolshed]$echo $HOME
/home/toolshed

KDE, makes my desktop: /home/toolshed/Desktop.

I want my desktop to be: /home/toolshed

Not likely. No more possibility of that then having your desktop under windows as your c:\.

You'd have to modify the kde source and recompile.

My $HOME is already set to the correct setting which is home of user.
export HOME=/home/username

I dont think a recompile is needed. It sounds like a variable or script change issue, such as startkde.

Currect is/home/user/Desktop I want to change to this /home/user

If I had to recompile to change this, I would say this is probably the worst software design ever, that is what variables are for.

I have been using XFCE/windowmaker
for years now, and have built my own LFS and just recently installed KDE 3.2 and I was quite impressed....it is the best desktop I have seen. (rant on kde coming in 5,4,3,2,1) But to place my desktop as /home/user/Desktop, will that kinda pisses me of

So, I dont know much about KDE configuration, but I find it hard to believe that I would need to recompile. Seems like it would be easier to just to ln -s /home/user /home/toolshed/Desktop

Can you send me ./configure parameters you added, or some docs that says this.

OK based on the source code
*s_desktopPath = config->readPathEntry( "Desktop", *s_desktopPath);
is after the hardcoded
*s_desktopPath = QDir::homeDirPath() + "/Desktop/";

so this means that you CAN controll it as you suspected (i think)

go to:
~/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals
there under [PATH] put:
Desktop=$HOME
and restart kde and see if that don't work???

Code:
  //from desktop.cc
 QString desktopPath = KGlobalSettings::desktopPath();
  //from kglobalsettings.h
 static QString desktopPath() { initStatic(); return *s_desktopPath; }
  //from kglobalsetting.cpp
  // Desktop Path
     *s_desktopPath = QDir::homeDirPath() + "/Desktop/";
     *s_desktopPath = config->readPathEntry( "Desktop", *s_desktopPath);
     if ( !s_desktopPath->startsWith("/") )
      s_desktopPath->prepend( QDir::homeDirPath() + "/" );
     *s_desktopPath = QDir::cleanDirPath( *s_desktopPath );
     if ( !s_desktopPath->endsWith("/") )
       s_desktopPath->append('/');
