I am stuck here, during reboot. I run Slackware and use KDE, I do not know what wrong I commited but I get the error message like "KDE is unable to start, check your installation" followed by the message that says that there is no permission to write to the home directory.
I can however start up with Fluxbox --- where I noticed that I cannot write as non-root to /home.
I should reply myself as the answer lies in my question --- I think while working as root, I triggered a ownership transfer of \home to root. I am now OK after doing ¨chown -R username userdirectory/¨ I hope it does not cause more trouble.
I can now start up with KDE --- I realize how dangerous root can be!
