KDE apps dont' load fast


i've heard stories of things opening like lightening fast on KDE like Konquerer, etc. but it takes like 3-4 seconds to load up for me. any ways i can make things load faster? I have pentium 4, so im confused.

running Slackware 9 and Kde 3.1.0

Lightening fast means the browsing, not loading.
Loading is always slow. I think that's where Linux and Linux apps need to be improved especially KDE and GNOME.
