Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

Sorry if this is obvious or has been answered before, but I can't find an answer...at least, not one that works for me.
I just installed SuSE 9.3 with the SuSE-provided KDE 3.4 RPMs. I'm trying to change the kicker icon, but I can't get it to change.
The threads I've been able to find here and elsewhere say that I need to replace kmenu.png in the icon theme I'm using. I try that, and it still retains the SuSE logo.
I also found several SuSEmenu.png icons, but removing/replacing those also does not change the icon.
I even went as far as renaming the ??x?? directories, then restart the panel. While most of my other icons disappear, the SuSE logo is still there for the kicker.
This lead me to believe that SuSE isn't pulling that icon from the icon theme. To see, I downloaded an icon theme from kde-look.org, and installed and selected it. Again, all the icons change except the KMenu icon, which I know wasn't part of the theme.
So, the question is, where is SuSE keeping this icon, so I can replace it? And a side question is, why are they making it so freaking difficult to change?
your menu is going to use "SuSEmenu.png" you can't just replace the file with "kmenu.png" you have to rename Kmenu.png to SuSEmenu.png and depending on what size your kicker icons are your may have to rename several different ones to find the right pixel size your using.
I tried your suggestion, but still no joy. I found every occurrence of SuSEmenu.png under the icon theme directory /opt/kde3/share/icons/crystalsvg, and replaced it wil the icon I want (named SuSEmenu.png, of course). I also found a SuSEmenu.svgz in the scalable directory, and replaced it with the corresponding svgz pic from that directory (for each directory there's a particular icon in the directory I want, so I'm just making a copy of it named SuSEmenu.png).
I restarted the kicker with dcop, no change. I logged out and restarted the X server, and still no change.
