Kde 3.4.1

KDE 3.4.1 was released recently as a bug fix to kde 3.4. I have multiple linux boxes here at work with one of them being under-utilized. I'd upgraded it some time ago to version 3.4 without any difficulty so I tried upgrading that machine. I chose it because it was under-utilized and thus if I had problems I wouldn't be too inconvenienced. I also, for some reason, anticipated problems with KDE 3.4.1.

I downloaded from the web and compared the files to ensure I had the correct ones and that I had them all. I then did the arts* upgrade first, then kdelib* and then kdebase*. After this I went though the process of upgrading all the other packages that were downloaded.

Once I installed all the packages I restarted the computer.

Upon start I get a message (at the point where I'd be presented with the login prompt) that certain files are missing related to Bluecurve. When I click OK it brings up a generic login prompt and I can log in.

Upon logging in I receive an error message regarding kdeinit. The desktop start up procedure stops until I click ok. Once it continues the KDE desktop appears to load.

I went into Synaptic to check to see if there were any kernel upgrades (while I was at it -- upgrading this machine), and immediately synaptic tells me I have 11 broken packages.

When I choose to log out I get a sigdev 11 error in kicker.

Other than that it seems to work. When I go into the control panel it indicates that I am running 3.4.1 of KDE.

Anyone have ideas on how to resolve the 1) broken packages, 2) the broken login screen, and 3) the sigdev 11 errors in kicker?

TIA

Has no one downloaded and installed KDE 3.4.1? This is a popular package. Has no one had problems with it if they have downloaded and installed it?

Or, do we have all question givers on these forums and no one with answers? If so, it points to a fact that linux is still far too difficult for even the well initiated.

Well that's an interesting viewpoint. Has it occured to you that by bumping your thread after less than 24 hours you a) don't allow those people at work or on the other side of the world to post and b) insult our members and possibly make them not want to answer you?

Maybe those with an answer are still researching it so as to give you a decent answer.

Don't be so impatient - just because it's desperately urgent to you doesn't make it so for the rest of us.
