KDE 3.1 startup message: 'Could not start kdeinit' -- what does this mean?

When I start KDE 3.1, a white box pops up which says "could not start kdeinit." I have no idea what this does, and it doesn't appear to be affecting anything...KDE still runs fine. What is this? What is kdeinit? Should I be concerned about this?

Thanks,

-n.

it means there is something wrong with your KDE installation........
you might re-install and see if it goes away..............
KDE may or may not start properly in the future if you don't
figure out the problem.........

The weird thing is (and I forgot to mention this before), this only started happening recently; i.e., KDE installed fine, and then something went wrong.

This happened to me it could be something in your home directory. try logging in with another user and see if you get the same error.

I get this error when attempting to log in both as root and user. I don't know if this is relevant, but at the same time this began happening, the arts daemon stopped loading automatically on KDE startup.

This happened to me after updating my Fedora Core 1. I've come to the conclusion that the only way that I'm going fix this is re-install KDE. How do I re-install KDE?

update:
I finally figured out how to remove and reinstall KDE. I renamed the .kde directory and tried to login but this didn't work. I then used 'yum remove kde*' to remove KDE. I then reinstalled KDE using the 'Add/Remove Applications' menu option. KDE still started with the following message box: 'could not start kdeinit. check your installation.' Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks
