KDE 3.03 Upgrade Problems
I DLed the packages from the slackware-current directory at sourceforge for KDE. I used upgradepkg to update all the KDE packages, I also installed the new g++
When I try to launch KDE with startx, it starts normally. Then when the splash would appear, a window instead appears and says "could not launch kdeinit, check your installation" . I click ok, then I get, "could not launch ksmserver, check your installation." This is what I get when trying to launch KDE: ksplash: relocation error: /opt/kde/lib/libkdefx.so.4: undefined symbol: _ZNK7QPixmap6metricEi kdeinit: relocation error: /opt/kde/lib/libkdecore.so.4: undefined symbol: _ZNK11QTranslator9classNameEv Warning: connect() failed: :No such file or directory ksmserver: relocation error: /opt/kde/lib/libkdefx.so.4: undefined symbol: _ZN12QPaintDevice13setResolutionEi Warning: connect() failed: :No such file or directory Error: Can't contact kdeinit! Help appreciated. Thanks A. Slackware 8.1 - mostly updated |
I don't use Slackware, but I recently upgraded from KDE2.x to KDE 3. The first thing I had to do was upgrade Qt to version 3. Are you using Qt 3?

I have recently upgraded my KDE install and have gotten the same error that you have, I would like to switch from KDE as my default window manager to gnome to try to and figure this out, can someone tell me how to do this from the command line? thanks

If your using slackware-8.1 don't bother installing from slackware-current unless you prepared to install everything, they are compiled with diferent versions of gcc and are not binary compatable.
For slackware-8.1 kde packages go to your nearest kde ftp mirror. ftp://download.au.kde.org/pub/kde/st.../Slackware/8.1 |
