Question Kde 3.0.1

Does anybody know if there is a release of KDE 3.0.1
for Red Hat that I can download?

If so, where?

Thanx.

I would recommend using the source. Sure, it's a bitch to compile (it took me all night), but the result is fabulous. I sense a significant improvement in speed compared to KDE 3.0
For instance: Konqueror is much faster.

actually, it's one of the easiest of the large software packages to compile. it has excellent configure scripts (if ur missing a library that might offer u some extra functionality in KDE it will tell u at the end of the script (instead of in the middle of the script where u might not notice the message) what u can do with it and where u can get it from, whereas configure scripts of many other packages simply say "blah not found") and as long as u follow the correct order (arts - kdelibs - kdebase - install the rest in any order u want) it will work perfectly. yes it does take a long time to compile but it is a huge software package after all

Compiling Gnome for example is a huge pain in the ass (unless u've done it many times already), but KDE is really easy even if ur doing it for the first time (again, as long as ur following the correct order of installation)

Packaged for RH should be already on RH ftps. (look for links on www.kde.org). Haven't checked...

On first glance it may appear so, but I've just searched through redhat and no luck.

May just take a little time before they post it. I think that kde 3.0 is available with their latest distribution, 7.3.

It may be it's not yet packed. 3.0.1 is quite new.
Oh, and have you checked for links on www.kde.org ?

Doesn't look like they have packed it yet.
No matter. I'll try compiling.

You're right, it's not very difficult to compile it, it just takes a long time to do it
So I would like to rephrase: it's not a bitch to compile, it just takes a long time.... oh and also, make sure you have plenty of harddrive space when compiling, about 600 Megs or something. I discovered that when compiling kdelibs froze.

piranha, you can find a mirror close to you @ http://www.kde.org/ftpmirrors.html. From there, you should be able to find it....

However... I can't find them either at the mirror i tried...

There still doesn't seem to be a packed version of 3.0.1 of RedHat, though there are many others there.
