kaudiocreator will not rip some tracks

I have been using kaudiocreator successfully for a few weeks ripping my CDs. I have now come across some very odd behaviour.

On some CDs the first track on the CD will not rip. Kdaudiocreator just stalls. RipperX on the other hand can rip these tracks. Do these two programs use different ripping engines?

Quite possibly. Copy-protected CDs will sometimes cause the first track to fail to rip - I had this problem with Dido's White Flag album. I use grip, and I've yet to find a CD it hasn't ripped perfectly - it uses the excellent cdparanoia engine which goes the extra mile to make sure that the ripped copy is identical to the CD.

Thanks. So far I have had the problem on only 2 Cds Copland Appalachian Spring and Berg Violin Concerto.
So I ripped the wav with RipperX and converted using lame --preset standard from the command line
