Kaudio questions & other rip / burn ???

I've been using linux for years but never used it to burn cd's before.
I just installed slackware 9.1 and tried using kaudio creator for the first time.
The tracks came off the audio cd's and are in a directory on the hard drive but I am having trouble getting the creator to find them now.
I clicked the remove completed jobs button and perhaps that was a mistake.
Anyway, I want to burn cd's from the files on the hard drive.
Also, I don't know the best encoding to use, lame or what??
If that was'nt enough I managed to delete the internet address from the setting window and so if anyone knows of good places to get some tracks that would be great.
Is ther documentation for kaudio? I looked at kde.org.
Are there other rip/burn programs available for linux?
What are the basic steps involved in creating an audio cd with kaudio.
Thanks in advance, james
