karaoke mixer app in linux?

i need an app for linux to take the vocals out of a music track.

its sorta a school assignment.

we have to mix our own parody to a song, then sing it.
i am going to add a few effects to mine, then put it on a cd, and play it.

sounds strange, but its not that bad.

Try Audacity. It's a great little mixing app. It even has instructions for doing what you want. Basically, you'll want to split the song into right and left channels, then invert one of the channels, then mix them into one track. This won't work for all songs, but most songs have identical vocal tracks on the rt. and lt. channels, while the instruments have different levels to produce stereo separation. So after inverting, the vocals will cancel out, leaving only the instruments.

Enjoy!

I thought I did tell you how. But remember what I said, this won't work for all songs. Here is a link to the instructions in the audacity FAQ.
