Kali Linux EFI Freezing at Startup & How to Get Internet?

I am dual-booting running Linux Mint and Mac OS X on a Macbook Air 2014. Now, I am trying to install Kali via USB. After six days of the live USB not working/booting, today it finally booted (I booted it through the USB, I didn't install it). After this, I gave the USB to my friend to install on his Windows 8 computer, but alas it did not work so he gave it back to me. Upon trying to boot it up again, I have encountered freezing 8/10 times that I select the EFI Boot in rEFInd. On the 1/10 chance that it does not freeze upon startup, it freezes just after start up. On the other off chance that I get to the menu where it asks me if I would like to install it, I choose install and it freezes.

Note: I made the live USB following the instructions from this tutorial http://forums.kali.org/showthread.ph...all-Kali-Linux

In addition to the freezing, on that one time I was able to boot, I noticed that I could not get wifi. This also happened in Mint, so I installed a driver. Is there a similar fix for Kali? If so, what is it?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Kali is designed by EXPERTS for use BY EXPERTS

First off, do not listen to John VV. Kali is for use by anyone who wants to learn. Don't ever let anyone tell you that you shouldn't use a tool like Kali because you are not an expert. You will meet a lot of John VV's in the IT / NetSec world. Ignore them.

In regards to your issue, there is a known issue surrounding booting Kali from USB on Macs. There has been limited success using various methods that can easily be found with a google search. If the option is available, I recommend booting the USB from a Windows box. If that is not an option, the less ideal approach would be via VM. If you are just starting out with Kali / Pen Testing, a VM should be fine. Also, do not use the Kali in the wild until you know how to properly use it. You will learn a ton by setting up your own network and breaking into boxes you created.

Enjoy the learning experience and once you become an expert, remember where you started and help those who seek it.

Cheers.

Hi...

While I can understand that you disagree with John VV, this isn't a good way to make your introduction. There is a basis for his viewpoint. :(
