Kaffeine problem

During playback with kaffeine, there used to be sporadic flashes of rgb(I dont know how to explain it). Thinking that the problem was with kaffeine, I unistalled 0.6.1 which comes default with mandrake and installed 0.6.2 found in the kaffeine website. When I tried to open a file, I got ¨Loading of player part ´KaffeinePart´ failed¨,¨All Drivers failed to initialize!¨. It must be noted here that this happens during initxine, and whenever I run kaffeine, i get an installation check and that says ¨KaffeinePart Ok¨.
I then installed mplayer and found that the problem was with the win32 codecs(downloaded from mplayerhq) as there were those flashes in mplayer too.Since mplayer cuts out the black bands on the top and bottom of 16:9 videos, it is very distracting.
I removed kaffeine 0.6.2 and installed 0.6.1 from urpmi, but still I get the same error.

Any Help?

Don't know what flashes your refering to in Kaffeine. Could be a frame rate problem or buffer problem.

When you installed 6.2 did you get the .rpm file. If so I would suggest open RPMDrake do a search for Kaffeine, un-install from the drake then re-install. It should ask for one or more of the CD's. That way at least it will load all the depends it needs and should work...

Also I switched to Mplayer for most all of my video and music. I don't have 16:9 but You might try loading your movie with some options like:

mplayer -fs -zoom <movie.file>
mplayer -fs -aspect 16:9 <movie.file>

I figured out the mplayer issue, regarding the flashes, i really have no idea how to explain them, when playing scratched dvds or when buffering during a stream, sometimes the screen locks up at a point between two frames and you can see horizontal stripes(rgb, no i dont mean scanlines). That is not a major issue as i figured out that the problem is with the codecs(win32)and not the player.

The real headache is getting kaffeine to work. I have removed the cd sources from my urpmi sources and instead have added ftp sources. I d/l´d kaffeine from there. Since I urpmi´d it, all dependencies are take care of.

P.s.: 6.2 was a mandrake rpm i found in kaffeine.sf.net.

I just now realised that the 0.6.2 version which I had downloaded was for 10.1, but I stilled uninstalled it and installed 0.6.1 through urpmi.
