k3b OPC failure

Hi,

i've been using k3b now for a few months, and i've never had problems. Today i started my computer and started k3b to burn some of my movies, and it gave me errors. Funny thing though, it will burn on DVD+RW but not on DVD-R or DVD+R.

Here's the debug message given by K3B:

I'm using k3b on Gentoo2006.1.

P.S. I also tried installing tkdvd, it passes the same error. Already did an uninstall of k3b, and then reeinstalling, but alas, didn't fix.

Thanks in advance!

That doesn't look like an error with K3B at all, but a device error on your burner.

I had nearly the same error a few months ago when I installed a new DVD-RW drive, and eventually the fix was to recompile the kernel with some different IDE options.

That doesn't sound like your problem here since it was working before (and I assume you didn't change the kernel recently) so it could be a device malfunction. You might want to try a burn from a live CD (if you have two drives, or at least use a live CD that let's you eject afterwards) or Windows if you are running a dual boot.

Nope, haven't changed anything in my kernel the last 2 weeks. I'll try booting with knoppix and mount my harddisk, and burn the movie.

ok .. to test everything ,since my knoppix dvd fails on me, i hung my dvdwriter on my lil brothers ubuntu pc and with gnomebaker tried, but it gave me the same error. So i took it out, and hung it my sisters computer which users :( windows :( but here i get no error, but it stops burning anyway. stupid windows didn't give me error report..

anyway, i'm going to bring it back to the store, i still have my ticket.

**EDIT** Went back to the store, explained my problem, gave them the debug output by k3b, they didn't give me any troubles, gave me a new one, Samsung SH-S182M. Works out of the box. So all problems fixed :) **/EDIT**

Too bad about the drive being dead, but at least you got it replaced without any hassles.
