k3b no devices

I have just installed k3b on my gentoo box and I am trying to configure it. If I go to settings and then setup k3b it shows both my cd burner and my cdrom drives (hdc, hdd). But when I go to configure k3b and click on devices it doesn't show any. If I try to add one on /dev/cdrom or /dev/cdrom1 or /dev/hdc or /dev/hdd it says:

could not find an additions device at that specific location.

Does anyone have any advice? I will post my /etc/fstab below. Thanks a lot.

Code:
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.

Well, was your CD burners working before? or with any other program? (in linux of course).
If not, you might want to activate the ide-scsi emulation in lilo, but it will only work if your kernel is 2.4.x or older, because 2.6 does not need it.

sorry for the late reply but I have been out of town for thanksgiving and all. I have never been able to burn a cd before as this is my first time trying. I am a linux newbie and jumped hard core into gentoo (my friend helped me set it up). I believe that the kernel version on my box is 2.6 so I don't think that is the problem. Both my devices work properly and I can mount both of them and read any disk that I put in them. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions and if anyone has any others please feel free to let me know.

Okay I got the problem fixed. It turned out that I didn't have read and write permissions for these devices so I just did chmod o+rw /dev/hdc in my case and also for hdd and as soon as I reopened k3b it located both of my drives. Thanks for all of the help everyone.
