K3b: my CD burner/DVD player not recognized at all

I had no trouble using k3b in my aptosid box-- 'til today. Some package I upgraded must have altered some config because now k3b doesn't even recognize my CD-burner/DVD player. I used apt-get purge to get rid of k3b and apt-get install to re-install k3b. I rebooted but no luck.

When all worked just fine before this problem, my CD-burner/DVD player drive was known as /dev/cdrom

Info on my k3b:

Version 2.0.2
Using KDE Development Platform 4.4.5 (KDE 4.4.5)

My kernel and OS:

Host/Kernel/OS "aptosidbox" running Linux 2.6.35-7.slh.1-aptosid-686 i686 [ aptosid 2010-02 Κῆρες - kde-lite - (201009132215) ]

What do I edit to get k3b to see my CD-burner/DVD player?

Thanks

Can you show the output of cdrecord --devices?

Use "cdrecord -scanbus" for valid output.

"cdrecord" isn't available in aptosid. It's been replaced by wodim. I then ran and got this output:

# wodim -scanbus
scsibus1:
1,0,0 100) 'LITE-ON ' 'LTR-48327S ' 'PUS6' Removable CD-ROM
1,1,0 101) 'TSSTcorp' 'CDW/DVD TS-H492B' 'IB00' Removable CD-ROM
1,2,0 102) *
1,3,0 103) *
1,4,0 104) *
1,5,0 105) *
1,6,0 106) *
1,7,0 107) *

[end of output]

So when I opened k3b, I see my CD-burner/DVD player once again showing up there. Don't know why this didn't happen after 1 or 2 reboots following apt-get install k3b, a re-install of k3b that followed apt-get purge k3b.

I hope k3b continues to be recognized by my system. Thanks for your help even though I don't fully understand why this sort of thing happens now and then.
