Hi! I just downloaded a DVD image that's ripped from a dual layer DVD, it's about 7.5 gb.
I bought myself a dual layer DVD to burn it on, but when I insert the DVD and try to start burning it gives me "Error: Data does not fit disk". Well, since my dual layer DVD can take 8.5 gig data and the file is 7.5 gig big I do not know what the problem is?
It is possible to burn a data DVD DL up to 8.5G on K3b with a version as early as 0.11.13, I am currently using 0.11.15cvs and it works for burning a raw data dvd. I have not been able to get it to burn a bootable DVD DL though.
To get it to burn a data DVD DL you right click on the red and green status bar on the bottom of the GUI while in K3b's " NewData DVD Project ". When you right click on the status bar that is telling you that you are trying to burn too much it will give you three options on the menu that will pop up. The menu you are looking at should say " DVD Size ". The options are: 4.7 GB (with a check next to it), Custom..., and From Disk...
If you have ripped the data you want on the disk to the hard drive you can burn it to the DVD DL by placing the blank disk in the drive and asking K3b to take the size " From the Disk... ". Located in the aforementioned menu.
This process discribed will burn a data DVD DL, but IT WILL NOT BE BOOTABLE. I have not found a solution to this problem and I am working on finding one. If you want to make a backup of lets say SuSE 9.2 PRO you will need a bootable disk if you want to be able to use it. So ripping the DVD DL to the hard drive and then burning the disk wont make it bootable, but you can make a bootable MINI CD with the appropriate ISOLINUX program. and then change media to the data DVD DL you burned in theory.
Using the command line programs, cat, and dd to make ISO's and then burning them does not work for me on my system. This is because cat thinks the DVD DL is 4.7 GB and dd totally screws up thinking the G__D___ thing is 16 TB. I dont think that it is a problem with K3b that I can't burn a bootable DVD DL I am thinking that it is the fault of these command line programs so I am looking for a solution. I don't like work arounds as permanent soulutions.
This should answer your questions and more. I hope I was a help.
I had the same problem. All I had to do is update K3b (now 0.11.18) and dvd+rw-tools (now 5.21.4.10.8). K3b now recognizes and burns bootable iso images on DL media without any problems.

Rep:
i did a test for speedlabs.org on a dual layer burn using an 812s@832s (Liteon) it consistently coastered the disks in short, test it with cheap media first.
PS.: DvdInfoPro can be run under cedega so you can verify that everything burnt right.
