K3b doesn't find burner

I'm running Kubuntu 7.04 with all the latest patches installed.

When I open K3b, I get the following:

Quote:

No CD/DVD writer found.
K3b did not find an optical writing device in your system. Thus, you will not be able to burn CDs or DVDs. However, you can still use other K3b features like audio track extraction or audio transcoding or ISO9660 image creation.
The burner works fine, I've used it with other OS's, such as Debian 4.0. So I think it's definitely a software issue. I tried installing the trial version of Nero for Linux, and that doesn't detect the burner either.

You don't say what kind of burner you have, or how it's connected.

Are the drivers loaded for the burner?
Can you mount an already-burned CD/DVD in it, and read it?
And (sorry, the obvious question), if you've just rebuilt your machine, have you moved this hardware physically, and are you sure it's plugged in?
