When you insert a disc does an icon show up on your desktop? It should. You can eject the disc in ubuntu by right-clicking on the disc and choose "eject". Also, in ubuntu the easiest way to burn an iso is to right-click on the iso file and choose "write to disc". Choose slowest possible speed to burn an iso.
EDIT: You might try the ubuntuforums.org for questions about ubuntu. You can do a search and likely find that your question has been answered already. If not, you can ask there and usually get a quick reply.
