Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I am trying to burn cds, well K3B keeps erroring out on me. I did a reinstall of K3B and cdrecord and now it says that my CD burner cannot burn cds..?
I am running a 188.8.131.52 kernel with Gnome 2.8 on Debian Sid.
here is one error

The original author should not be bothered with problems of this version.

cdrecord: package and read /usr/share/doc/cdrecord/README.ATAPI.setup .
I use Ubuntu (kernel 2.6.8-1/Gnome 2.8) and I have to run k3b as root or it gets upset. (Either doesn't work or works and screws up the .ICEAuthority file)
Running it as root however makes it work just fine.
I don't know if there's a connection between this and your problem.
