k3b almost works

Okay, after battling k3b for a good while now, it seems like it almost wants to work. (Please help me finish off this beast!)

Upon trying to burn a set of mp3's, it tells me to insert a blank CD (which is already present in the CD-RW drive). After saying "Force"...it comes back with the following output in the "Progress" window:

? STart writing at 1x speed...
X ERROR: Cannot set write parameters mode page.
X ERROR: Writing failed.
X Cdrdao returned an error! (code 1)
X Operation not permitted
X Please send me an email with the last output...
? Removing buffer files

where the ? and X are images.

Also, when I click "Show Debugging Output" I get:

cdrdao
-----------------------
Cdrdao version 1.1.5 - (C) Andreas Mueller <andreas@daneb.de>
SCSI interface library - (C) Joerg Schilling
L-EC encoding library - (C) Heiko Eissfeldt

Check http://cdrdao.sourceforge.net/drives.html#dt for current driver tables.
Using libscg version 'schily-0.5'

I assume k3b setup has been run. I had a similar error when I tried to set the recording speed - if I left the speed on auto I think it worked fine. But in my case I thing k3b was using cdrecord not cdrdao.

originally, yes, i ran k3b setup. it actually crashed my machine after it changed /etc/hosts. after i got the box back up, i've never had a single burn work.

i used to be able to burn (with other programs) just fine on this box.

I'm running the latest k3b 0.11 from www.k3b.org.

I don't think it touched my /etc/hosts file - it looks the same as it as always been. I'm not sure why it should have to.

Sounds like it may have munged your permissions - have you tried a burn as root?
Here are my permissions:
Code:
viking2:~ % ls -l /dev/hdg
brw-rw---- 1 michael burning 34, 0 Jan 30 2003 /dev/hdg
/dev/hdg is the ide device that corresponds to my burner. I used to use
the ide-scsi interface with k3b with no problems as well - but its recommended to
switch to ATAPI for kernel 2.6.

I think burning is a group either I or k3b added to allow others apart from
the X console user to burn discs.

And cdrecord works normally:
Code:
viking2:~ % cdrecord dev=ATAPI: -scanbus
scsidev: 'ATAPI:'
devname: 'ATAPI'
scsibus: -1 target: -1 lun: -1
Warning: Using ATA Packet interface.
Warning: The related libscg interface code is in pre alpha.
Warning: There may be fatal problems.
Using libscg version 'schily-0.7'
