Is it automatically closing the session on your disc after the first set of data is written? This would cause it to refuse to write additional data at a later date - leaving it open allows repeated writing until the disc is full or the session closed. Nero leaves it open by default I think, but has been a while since I used k3b and even longer since I touched Nero!
