Unhappy Jpeg issues with KDE3

I'm having a problem with my KDE install where I cannot display jpegs in several situations (I cannot use them for the desktop background, or as the background in some games such as patience). I can however, view them properly with Konqueror and TheGIMP.

I have a feeling the problem may be related to my compiling and installing libjpeg-6b (as part of installing ogle), but I'm not entirely sure, nor do I know how to fix it. Any help would be appreciated.

When I attempt to change the background image in KDE via the control panel, nothing appears in the preview window when I select the image. When I click on the .jpeg I want to set as the background and click the Apply button, simply nothing happens. The jpeg does not display. .png files however, work fine.

Also, in the patience application, the background is usually a jpeg which you can change in the settings. However, it is now just a white background, although a jpeg IS selected. It's simply not appearing.

i wouldn't think that the libjpg file from ogle messed things up. other than that what's happening is really strange.

i'm not sure with slack, but in my kde 3.1, to change the background i don't go to the control center. i right click and then go to configure desktop. you should get a choice for backgrounds on there. if things get out of hand with it. open up the gimp then save the image as a .png file instead of a .jpg and it should work out for you. not as much help as you probable wanted, but that should work.

cheers.
