Java2 in Mozilla or Netscape

Sites requiring Java2 will not work when I use Mozilla or Netscape. I can get such sites to work with Konqueror. Can anyone give me advice as to how to get Java going in either Mozilla or Netscape? Whenever I encounter a page requiring Java2, it gives me a window declaring that I must download the default plug in. The window states: "This page contains information of a type (application/x-java-vm) that can only be viewed with the appropriate plug in." I already have the appropriate plug in; so, what else can I (or should I) do?
