JAVA wont stay DEAD after I KILL -9 it

An app, described in TOP only as JAVA is taking nearly 100% of my CPU. It starts on boot, restarts after I kill it and is basically driving me nuts. How do I kill this undead monster?

Try to check in the services which starts up at boot time and see whether there is any java application which has been autostarted.
May be that one is creating load on java.

Maybe something is re-spawning it after you kill it, use ps(1) to see if it has a parent. Maybe something like:
Code:
ps -eo ppid,pid,args:54,%cpu,user | sort
see
Code:
man 1 ps
for details and other options
