java-vm, xhost +,and ximian evoulution email client
Hi all,
just a quick question about three different programs.....i am trying to install java runtime environment as a plugin in netscape so i can plya some online poker, but the instillation instructions on the SUN website doenst do much in the way of explaing what needs to be done to get it working correctly....i have tried to find some kind of documentation, but all i find are java programming instructions. Any help on that topic is much appreciated....next, does slackware 9.0 come with the xhost program?? it doesnt appear to be on my system, and google searches lead nowhere, only to threads in newsgroups and stuff, no source or binaries on any pages.....and last, but not least, does Ximian Evoulution rin on any platforms besides RH and Mandy??? i dont knwo where i would go about picking up the binaries and installing it, the wesite doesnt contain any links to the software, and kmail is not that nice....oh by the way i am aware that ximian isnt supported on anything but RH and Mandy, but i could care less i just need a better email/calendar program. somethign a little closer to outlook...thanks for all the help everyone.
Geoff

The basics of installing Java are pretty well documented here, but the short version is
1) Download Java
2) chmod +x java_install_file.bin
3)./java_install_file.bin
4) Create create a sym link in the Mozilla plugin directory to the plugin files in the installed Java directory (/java_diretory/jre/plugin/i386/ns610).
If you still have trouble, try linking to the plugin in the ns600 directory. If you STILL have trouble, try installing Blackdown Java instead of Sun Java. It's the same Java, but compiled in a different, and sometime more useable, manner.
Yes, Slack 9.0 comes with xhost. On my install it is in /usr/X11R6/bin.
