Java monopolizes sound?
I am running J2RE4.01_02. I think this is the latest version that can be downloaded from the Sun site. I am also running Mozilla 1.4a and Netscape 7.02. When Java is called, it seems to "monopolize" the sound, even if it does not use any sound. For example, if I bring up a stock real-time streamer (Java application) while also running ICQ and a new ICQ message arrives, I hear no sound from ICQ. After I shut down the browser, all sounds play, as if they had been queued up, waiting for Java to release /dev/dsp.
This is not a new problem. I have been having the same problem with previous versions of Mozilla/Netscape and Java. I don't think it is a browser issue; I think the problem is with Java itself. Isn't Java supposed to know there is a sound server running instead of grabbing the sound device directly? |
i'm having the same problem too...
