Java install screwup

So, I was trying to install Java using the how-to posted somewhere on Linuxquestions. I followed the advice to delete the java javac jar files, and now I'm not sure how to fix the mess I've made.

First off, I trashed the java files I had downloaded. This seemed to help- now Firefox actually runs. But I need to fix the damage to the /usr/bin file, and then figure out how to install java correctly. I just followed the instructions on the java download web site, but that didn't work. What next? I just reinstalled FC2, I don't want to have to reinstall again. Bah.

I'm lost.

The gotcha is the final step... linking the file. If you link the wrong file into the plugin dir, firefox wont start. If that happens, just deleate the link and try agin until you get the right one.

Sorry for my belated reply. I reinstalled the files, making sure to use the correct filenames and things for my FC4's system. It worked, no problems. I think I messed up during the "linking the file" step, I'll bet I missnamed something.

Thanks!
