Yeah, I've read through this page as well.

It really does not make any sense. Could there be Java compatibility issues?

The Java appeared to install properly. I setup the java path to the directory as instructed (/usr/java/j2re1.4.2_06/lib/i386). The opera web site tells me I'm looking for the directory containing the files libjava.so and libawt.so. I even checked to make sure these files are in the i386 directory. They are. I keep getting the same error message. Thanks for the help everyone. I'm gonna start all over, reinstall, etc. Maybe I missed something somewhere.

thats weird. i just upgrading the java on my box and it works just fine. onlything i had to do was make new symlinks to the new java binary to /usr/bin and thats it

Yes, starting from scratch was a waste of time. Are we talking about the same version of java? I dled the latest version of java from this site:

http://www.java.com:80/en/download/manual.jsp

Does anyone know if there is a particular version of java I should be using?

yup same version.

did you run the debug switch like i asked you to and post the results here?
