java ant tomcat

hi,
i have a new java binary install and tried to run tomcat and ant both of which give me the following error on startup:
failed /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.0_02/jre/lib/i386/client/libvjm.so, because libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2: cannot load shared object file: no such file or directory
if it try to configure postgresql with java it fails: ant not running
any ideas? would be great!
cheers, jens
