I am using Kpackage to install the java 1.5 sdk. I open it ok, highlight the jdk on the left hand side and press install (I check everything but test). It appears to install fine but then I am left with jdk 1.4.2 in the rpm tree.
that's because java 1.5 is a different package. you'll still keep the old java version and the new java version is some other, different package name. i can't remember what the package name is for java 1.5 but i don't think it uses jdk or skd in the name at all. i think the package name is something along the lines of 'j2se'.
The rpm for java 1.4 is named as j2sdk and that for 1.5 is just jdk. You can manually remove it using kpackage, it shouldn't do any harm to your system or mess up your new java installation.
I attempted yet again to install the package without attempting to use the upgrade package or upgrade files and was told it is already installed. It still only shows java 1.4..2. Any ideas??
