j2re 1.4.2 and mozilla 1.3.1 problem

everytime i symlink the plugin to my mozilla/plugins folder mozilla either crases right after i run it or doesnt run at all.

i installed it to /usr/local/java with no errors or problems.

Im running Slackware 9 with Gnome 2.2.0 and Mozilla 1.3.1

Is it just a bug with mozilla 1.3 and maybe an upgrade can fix it or is there something im missing.

It's possible that mozilla is built with the wrong version of gcc. Did you install it from source, or was it already built? If this is the case, a newer version of mozilla, or an older version of j2re will fix it

it was pre-built. I guess im gonna build 1.4 from source and gve that a go. thanks for the help

You could also get Blackdown java. It is Sun's Java compiled with several different versions of gcc. Picking the right one usually solves Mozilla problems.

well what i shouldve done in the first place is to run it from the terminal to check for errors. this is what i get with every versio of java ive tried including the versions from black down

LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /usr/local/java/j2re1.4.1/plugin/i386/mozilla/libjavaplugin_oji.so [/usr/local/java/j2re1.4.1/plugin/i386/mozilla/libjavaplugin_oji.so: undefined symbol: GetGlobalServiceManager__16nsServiceManagerPP17nsIServiceManager]

Dont know what else to try
